Turmeric
Turmeric: This bright, yellow spice is often associated with Indian and Thai curry dishes. Which I love!!!! That is why you will also see it used in many of the recipes on The Laila Approach. Curry is prevalent in Indian, Asian, and North African cuisines. This spice stands out for its wonderful flavor and bright yellow gold color. Recently, Turmeric has become very popular for its anti-inflammatory benefits. Due to this, you are sure to see it in the supplement aisle of a grocery store in the form a pill or liquid concentrate. And it is usually pricey! Instead of taking it as a supplement you can save money, while increasing taste, by using this healthy spice in your recipes.
I have been using turmeric for many years in my cooking to add flavor and color to grains, soups, meat, and stews.
It is available in the form of powder or fresh or dry root, which I find to be cheaper than the supplement form. I usually have a fresh turmeric root in the freezer or dry turmeric root in the pantry to grind and use as needed. I find the aroma of the fresh turmeric is stronger than the dry form.
Turmeric is a good source of manganese, iron, vitamin C, and potassium. It is rich in antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
